Wow! What a start! Following a sudden cardiac arrest that occurred, to a student at Landau Forte QEMS school in Tamworth, last August in Drayton Manor Park, we were invited to talk to the sixth form students about cardiac arrest, CPR and using a defibrillator.
We were greeted with a packed house in the theatre – over 200 students turning out – to hear the facts and understand how straightforward and simple doing CPR and using a defibrillator really is. It was thrilling to see so many students at one go all keen to hear about the campaign in Tamworth to purchase community access defibs (CPAD)and raise awareness of CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) useage. If each of those students just spreads the word to two more people that will be 600 persons aware of the facts – one percent of the population almost.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest strikes anyone at anytime and is not age-dependant. We intend to go to all of the schools in Tamworth in the future and educate students and teachers on this vital subject of basic life support.
